The Power to Rewrite a Family Story

Welcome to January 2023!

I don’t know about you but it is always bitter sweet to me when writing out the new year. It is fascinating to see what the new year will bring and the way it looks on paper but also a little sad that so much time has passed so fast again. It has become a tradition since I’ve been in Uganda, at the beginning of every year, I take time to travel to a new environment and reflect on the past year, set goals for the new year but to also reset and reenergize to reenter the field, ready to be used by God. It is always a much-needed trip where God really opens my eyes and heart to all he has and is doing through me. This year was no different and I truly can’t wait for what is to come!

This month the main focus has been on structuring the new year and all that it entails. At Amani Sasa my job requires more of the behind-the-scenes work. I am a part of a 35+ staff where I am using my degree to further serve Amani Sasa in work that is specific to my skill set and experience. I serve mainly within the communications team bridging the gap between America and Uganda. We are excited to have multiple missions’ teams coming to support and serve our community and staff with in depth trainings and volunteer trips. I love learning from the directors of this ministry that have been living and serving in Uganda for over 10 years. They have a huge heart for Uganda, refugees and truly know how to love people so well. At Amani Sasa we serve 500+ vulnerable refugee families each year.

At Khule Africa we have been busy and God has been moving! We are fulfilling the call to minister to the parents within the local slum this year. We have been diligently planning for this over the past 6 months and are so excited the time to start is finally here. This is another big LEAP for me. It is a complete God thing that we are even able to minister to this community, I’m beyond thankful. There is a big lack in parenting within this slum. It is common to see kids raising kids. The majority in this community do not know Jesus, some of these parents are even witch doctors. But what I am thankful for is that these parents are in the class! Even when they come intoxicated, closed off, or with their own beliefs I know God will reach their hearts in perfect timing. I have seen so much growth in the last graduation class and I know this will be the same. Reaching the parents is going to reach the children. Your support is not only changing the lives of those in the class but it is restructuring the community at large. It is rewriting the future of their children and setting a strong biblical foundation.

I know the work I do here is sometimes unrelatable due to the different culture and tremendous distance between us. But what keeps us all together is we are all people. We are all God’s children. When one hurts, we all hurt. This community I serve knows you and they pray for you as you are praying for them. They know I am not doing this alone, I am simply a single person, physically representing a much bigger team of people that truly love and care about each of them. That team is you.

I wanted to share this to give perspective of what your support is doing. You are supporting me to serve at Amani Sasa to help us continue to grow and reach more of the most vulnerable families in Kampala that are living on less than $1.00 a day. But your support has also fully financially supported an entirely new ministry project at Khule Africa. You are providing a safe place for these children to escape the streets filled with trafficking, abuse, and addictions. You are giving parents an opportunity to know Jesus and restructure the future of their children's lives. These classes wouldn’t exist without your support. With that and the expansion of these classes now reaching the parents it has been a big financial endeavor. We are currently not fully financially supported and we need your help.

Would you please consider becoming a monthly partner today? As little as $10 a month will support a parent with class materials. Also, if you are willing to host a small meal with friends, family, your small group or church I would love to provide you with all materials needed to share about how together we can support the most vulnerable children and parents here in Uganda. Your support has the power to rewrite a family story.
