Whats Next?

For those of you who have not read my last newsletter, I answered questions people have asked me on different social media platforms. One of the questions was “What have you learned while being in Uganda?”. I’ll tell you the same here as I did there. I have learned enough to write an entire book. But one particular thing I hold on to is the beauty of living in Gods calling for me. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that could ever compare to this. Following Gods call for me to move to Africa wasn’t easy but I’m here to tell you there is no place better for me then here. Things I would have never imagined happening, have happened. All because I was obedient to take the steps He was telling me to take and while doing that I bared an abundance of blessings.

Over the past few months I have been praying asking God what’s next for me. The one year of serving here I committed to is coming to an end and I didn’t feel to have a clear direction for what’s next. God doesn’t always speak to us by yelling, sometimes it’s just a whisper. I have been taking quite a bit of time reflecting on my experience here. I have been looking at all the blessings and lessons God has gifted me with over this past year. One of my absolute favorite parts of being here this past year is how easy it has been for me to reflect on the year. I have a bit of a scattered brain when it comes to remembering things, especially times and dates. But knowing everything I have experienced in this country has happened in this past year. I appreciate this so much. It’s something you really never get long term. Typically, if you go on a short-term trip or vacation, memories are easier to recall because you know the one time you were at that place. I hope you’re able to follow what I am saying here. It might seem like something so obvious or basic but for someone like me I love how easy it is to visualize this past year.

This past year seems to have passed by so quickly. Which is ironic because when Covid first came it seemed as if time wasn’t even moving. There has been so much that Covid has prevented us from doing within the ministry but rather we have been able to discover new and creative ways to reach and serve our people. My time here has been full of so many precious memories I will hold close to my heart forever. I have met people I now couldn’t imagine life without them. I have learned things I will carry with me and pass down to others for the remainder of my days. I have experienced God in new and exciting ways. I have grown so much, and I can’t thank God enough. When I mentioned earlier after taking the step to move here, the place God called me to, I was blessed abundantly. I am not exaggerating in any way possible. For some people it’s hard for them to see how moving to a third world country could be better than America. The thing they don’t understand is, it’s not about Africa vs. America it’s about living in Gods place vs. living in your place.

It took many whispers from God for me to hear the plans He had for me. You see, when I was praying for what’s next, I felt God telling me “what do you mean what’s next”. Let me tell you this was so confusing. There have been so many organizations I have served with and I would absolutely love to return to them. I prayed for each of them, I asked God which one He was referring to. Then one day when I was sitting on the floor in our prayer room, looking out the window as the beautiful, yet very hot African sun was pouring in I felt God tell me “you’re already here”. For me I just picture God almost laughing at me thinking Lexi, you know you should be here why are you even asking me what’s next. What a blessing it is to have a Father that loves us so much He whispers and teaches us rather than always yelling the directions impatiently. He gives us opportunity to grow and in His perfect timing it all comes together as clear as can be, exactly when we are prepared to hear it.

I am so excited to finally share the exciting news with you all, I will be staying in Uganda! God has been so good to me over this past year and it has been made so evidently clear that the work He has for me is not yet finished. With that being said I really don’t know when it will be. Rather than committing to another twelve months I’m committing to Gods plans. This might be another twelve months, but it also might be another few years, only God knows. Either way, I am so excited to start this new journey with you all.

With that being said I’m asking you, my support team, to walk in faith with me by committing to both finically and prayerfully walking alongside me. I know this is a big risk and scary at times without an end day in sight, trust me I have processed and prayed through this all. I would love for you to also pray and ask God how you can partner with me on this new journey. One of my absolute favorite things about living in Uganda is watching how He is using so many people’s gifts and skills to support me being here. I love getting calls from home hearing how this person heard what I was doing and has now opened up their doors to host fundraisers or people coming together that may never have before to work on projects in support of the journey. Moving to Uganda not only opened up doors for me to serve but it has opened up more doors than I could have ever imagined for so many people both that I know and do not know to serve and glorify Gods mighty name. This is truly what it is all about.
